Surfside Elementary Collects 5,725 Mangroves For MRC

This year’s winner of the Mangrove Collection Contest is Surfside Elementary School. Lindi Johnson’s Grade 3 class pictured here, brought 5,725 mangroves to the MRC’s greenhouse. To recognize this achievement, a pizza party was thrown in their honor. It’s volunteers who make the Shoreline Restoration Program work - they collect the mangrove seedlings, pot them, and help us plant them along the Lagoon. MRC Volunteers have planted 2,000 native plants along the shoreline of the Indian River Lagoon and its tributaries since December. For more info call the MRC at (321) 504-4500.
