The Lagoon Monitor

Salinity - It makes the Indian River a Lagoon

Low Water Levels in the Lagoon Over the Last Two Months

Lagoon Day - April 20, 2002

Lagoon Day - April 20, 2002

Its time for another Lagoon Day! Twice each year, the Indian River Lagoon Watch program sponsors a "LAGOON DAY", a Saturday when all volunteer monitors are asked to sample at their own sites simultaneously (at 8 a.m.) along the entire length of the lagoon. This gives us a unique snapshot of conditions in the lagoon at that one point in time. The first "LAGOON DAY" this year will be Saturday, April 20. After monitors complete their testing they are invited with their family and friends to a picnic next to the lagoon at Ballard Park in Melbourne. Ballard Park is at the mouth of the Eau Gallie River. (East from U.S. 1 on Thomas Barbour Dr. to the end.) Short presentations on water quality, the shoreline restoration program and scenic highway beautification plans will bring attendees up-to-date. The picnic begins at noon, bring a dish and MRC will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, sodas and chips. All MRC members and MRC volunteers are invited to attend. However, please let us know you are coming in advance so we have enough food. Let us know how many you will be bringing along as soon as you can by e-mailing us at council@mrcirl.org or by calling (321) 504-4500
