On May 30th planting began along the Indian River Scenic Highway. The first site was in Port St. John sponsored by FPL, opposite their power plant. Besides sponsoring the planting, FPL is also a sponsor of the Scenic Highway. Other partners of the planting efforts include Brevard County, the City of Palm Bay and Florida DOT. More then $150,000 in native plants will be planted this year along Pineda Causeway in Brevard County, along US1 in Palm Bay and at the future site of the Lagoon House. Besides beautifying the Scenic Highway, these native trees, scrubs, and wildflowers will also provide habitat for native birds and butterflies. All invasive species on these sites will also be removed.
