What Can You Do to Help?

The Lagoon Monitor-Introduction

Lagoon Salinity Drops Rapidly with End of Drought

Why Does Salinity Matter?

The Big Question

What Can You do to Help?

Lagoon Day - Saturday, November 16

Reduce paved surfaces around your home and direct the water from gutters and drains to unpaved areas where the rainwater can help plants and become valuable ground water. Let water pool on low areas of your property and percolate into the ground to become groundwater. Many experts believe our groundwater will be too salty to even water grass if we keep using it up and not letting it be replenished. Use compost mulch around your plants and reduce the need for watering. The compost also provides nutrients for the plants, avoiding expensive chemical fertilizers that trigger plant growth but also makes plants more subject to fungus and disease. Leave grass clippings on your lawn after mowing, the nutrients in the clippings makes the best and cheapest fertilizers. Remember only a healthy lagoon can provide for a healthy ecology, economy and healthy living conditions for its neighbors.
