Coastal Sprawl Threatens Health of the Water Bodies

From TC Palm News

Researchers from FMRI believe that skin lesions observed in fishes caught at the Fort Pierce Inlet were most probably due to environmental stress and not stormwater runoff. This was determined by tests that indicated the presence of 12 different types of bacteria with no indication of fungus present. Scientists believe that unlike bacteria, fungal infections in fishes are more likely to occur due to runoff from nearby drainage canals. Low salinity conditions and other environmental factors causes the fungal infections to spread more easily.
