St. Lucie County Commission and the Trust for Public Land will purchase 105 acres from Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution. The Indrio Blueway Buffer acquisition became possible when Harbor Branch lowered its price by $50,000 and Trust for Public Lands lowered its lease-purchase fees by $30,000. St. Lucie County will budget $235,000 for connecting the wetlands to the Indian River Lagoon and restoration. Uses for this environmentally diverse and sensitive land include public access for picnicking, fishing, hiking, wildlife tours and outdoor environmental classrooms.
