Citizens Use Referendums to Control Growth

Brevard Citizens are signing petitions to put two issues before the voters in Brevard. One would limit density increases by requiring a unanimous vote of the county commission or city council to increase density and the other would prohibit filling of any waterbody or wetland in Brevard if more than 1/8 of an acre of uplands were produced. See Savebrevard.org for more info and copies of the petition. A statewide effort to change the state constitution to allow citizens to vote on density increases and other comp plan changes is also collecting petitions to get the issue on the ballot.
