Treated wastewater from Piney Point phosphate plant, disposed of in the Gulf of Mexico is now being carried to the Keys threatening the marine ecosystem.
In 2001, a 60-mile-wide patch of "black water" was observed in the Keys due to runoff water, and an outbreak of red tide.
This is a fear this wastewater plume could cause similar impacts.
