Time to Collect Mangroves!

National Scenic Byway Beautification Plantings

In the last three months, MRC volunteers removed 2,169,250 square feet of invasive species like Brazilian Pepper along 2,830 feet of lagoon shoreline in Brevard County. Invasive species outgrow native species but do not provide habitat for native wildlife. MRC volunteers also planted 634 red, white and black mangroves. Thanks to all the volunteers who participated in our restoration events, especially Lisa Allgeger, Alexis Verderame, Dale Weddle, John Traise, Halee and Sam Unger, Travis Gear and his fellows Boys Scouts from Suntree. Special thank to Deputy Don Hoog and Karri Ann Mc Guire from the Sheriff Work Farm Sentencing Alternative Center.
