National Scenic Byway Beautification Plantings

During the last three months, MRC volunteers have contributed 581 hours, removing invasive species from 200,670 square feet of shoreline in Brevard County. Invasive species like Brazilian pepper displace valuable native species, destroy habitat for birds and fish, and provide no habitat on their own. If you are allergic to poison ivy, you also are allergic to Brazilian Pepper. The same toxins are present in both. During wildfires, these toxins are released into the air and are hazardous to breathe. Special thanks to the Brevard County Sheriff's Work Farm, MRC shoreline restoration intern Joshua Deel for his dedication, and all our volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact MRC at (321) 504-4500 or council@mrcirl.org .
