IN MEMORIAM - Emily Argo 1977-2003
Emily's warm and
engaging personality was
matched by a serious, lifelong
commitment to
endangered marine
mammal conservation. She
grew up near Cincinnati,
Ohio, where she was the
valedictorian of her high
school class. She went on
to earn a bachelor's degree
in Environmental Studies
and Biology from Ohio
Northern University, After
graduating, she
distinguished herself as a researcher for the Woods
Hole Oceanographic Institution's right whale program in
the Bay of Fundy, and as field coordinator for the
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's
manatee photo-identification program. At the time of
her death, Emily was lead observer for Wildlife Trust's
northern right whale aerial survey team. Her unique
blend of personality, intelligence, experience, and
training skills had poised her for leadership in the
wildlife conservation community.
